I don't think I have ever known
a tree as lovely as a poem.
a poem with meter strong and free
and pitched to rhyme most gracefully,
a poem that takes up what's at hand
and points it to the heart of man;
a poem that starts with nothing less
than wonder, filled with formlessness
but slowly finds it's sense and plan
and line by line begins to stand.
trees belong to god alone,
but anyone can write a poem.
